Based on a particular event’s connection to Norse mythology, the Ragnarok season 2 finale may have just set up the birth of one of Thor’s children.

The Ragnarok season 2 finale may have just set up the birth of one of Thor’s children from Norse mythology. In the ancient stories, the God of Thunder sired three children, whose names are Magni, Modi, and Thrd.

Netflix’s Norwegian action series has already featured a story where one of its gods spawned an offspring. Shortly after being revealed as Loki, Laurits (Jonas Strand Gravli) discovered that he had what he thought was a tapeworm. This creature turned out to actually be J ?rmungandr aka the Midgard Serpent, the monster destined to fight Thor. In the Norse myths, the Midgard Serpent is regarded as the child of Loki.

Ragnarok’s Thor, Magne (David Stakston), may soon have a child of his own much sooner than expected. In the season 2 finale, Magne was in a fight with Saxa (Theresa Frostad Eggesb?), who had made a grab for his hammer. During their struggle, Saxa suddenly kissed Magne, which led to the two having sex. It was a surprising turn of events, but not one without a basis in mythology. Though it hasn’t been said in the show, Saxa is quite clearly based on the Giant known as rnsaxa. Despite being an enemy of Thor, the two became lovers and had a child named Magni, who survives Ragnarok and helps his father defeat a giant.

Magna and Saxa having a tryst in season 2 certainly makes it seem like Thor and rnsaxa’s relationship is now playing out in modern times, which means that the product of their romance could be introduced as well. It’s possible that they’ll discover in Ragnarok season 3 that Saxa is pregnant with Magne’s child, which would make him a half-god, half-giant. This would of course cause Magne, who just turned 18, to suddenly be faced with a life-changing development. This would naturally have an impact on his relationships with his family and the gods he’s now allied with in the series. There’s also the matter of what Ran  and Fjor will think about it, considering that they regard Magne as their greatest enemy.

Furthermore, a pregnancy reveal for Saxa would have huge implications for both her story and Magne’s. Based on how they left things, it’s not altogether clear what their relationship is going forward, as there’s still plenty of bad blood between them in Ragnarok. This could result in the two being forced to put their differences aside permanently, with other figures in their lives looking to either eliminate the child or use it as a weapon in the future. Plus, a story where Magni is conceived would surely complicate whatever the show is building toward with Magne and his season 2 love interest, Signy (Bilie Barker). Signy is believed by many to be the reincarnation of Thor’s wife, Sif, so it does seem possible that Magne is about to enter into a love triangle of mythological proportions.
